Question – Discuss the five rules which should be followed to achieve sustainable development.
Answer –
Sustainable development can be achieved by following these five principles-
- Restrict use of renewable resource- Renewable resources should be used precisely. Their extraction rate should not increase their regeneration rate.
- Substitute non-renewal resources with renewable-Precise use of renewable resources should be encouraged instead of non-renewable resources as the non-renewable resources are depleting. The rate of depletion of non-renewable resources should not exceed their creation rate of renewable resource.
- Input efficiency- Technology improvement should be done so that more output can be produced by using the available resources efficiently. This will increase the production and will reduce the exploitation of resources.
- Pollution Control-All the necessary and required steps should be taken as to reduce all sorts of pollution in the environment. Pollution emission should not exceed the absorption capacity of the environment.
- Population Control-Rate of increase in population should not increase the carrying capacity of the environment. As more population means more stress on the available resources.
